Odie Cinema in October: Silent horror movies

As of last month, the selection of silent movies played in Odie Cinema in Second Life is thematic: September was about German expressionist cinema of the 1920s, and October - leading up to Halloween - has been about silent horror movies.

So far we've seen three of those: The Cat and the Canary on the 7th October, controversial Swedish documentary Witches (Häxan) on the 14th, and Murnau's classic Nosferatu on the 21st.

For the last Friday of this month I have something special in mind. We'll first watch the first horror movie, a very early attempt by George Melies, the 1896 short film The Haunted Castle. After that, we'll have a look at Buster Keaton in the 1921 The Haunted House. It will be interesting to compare the two and observe how the "haunted house" subgenre developed within those 25 years of movie history.

I am grateful to everyone who's been attending our Friday 1 pm silent movie screenings and contributed with their donations. A special shout-out to Ciska Riverstone who's recently posted a very nice blog about the cinema.
