This coming Friday, April 15, we'll be watching a 1919 German silent movie Anders als die Andern (Different from the Others). Produced as part of the efforts to repeal the infamous Paragraph 175 which criminalized homosexuality, the film was one of the earliest cinematic portrayals of same-sex love.
The subject fits well with another event I recently hosted, the Love in Sepia exhibition, showing old photographs and daguerreotypes depicting same-sex intimacy, dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. Images displayed in the exhibition are still available as part of a slide show on the island.
Projection will start at 1pm SLT and if you can spare about an hour, do come and join us (the movie lasts c. 50 minutes). You can reach the island by following this SLurl.
